The Apple iPhone by far has been the most talked about gadget over the past one year. With over 4000 domains (including us), relating to this wonder gadget the hype and expectations has only increased.
iPhone was Apple’s answer to a popular request by iPod fans, to integrate the iPod onto a cellphone. So was the iPhone just an iPod with a phone? No certainly not! It was much more than just an iPod or just a cellphone. Apple revolutionized the Touch Screen concept with its multi-touch feature, But more importantly, Apple kept on innovating the iPhone. They added an iTunes store with the Starbucks tie up, released regular firmware upgrades adding new features every time and lately the mighty one The iPhone SDK!

Being a OS maker, Apple powers the iPhone OS itself. This has been one of their finest positives with the iPhone. One unique thing about the iPhone is the super fast interface, it certainly reminds me of my old Treo 650. But here Apple has a 600MHz+ processor powering the iPhone!
One thing we obviously know is that Apple will never be content just one release. 2008 will undoubtedly see update(s) to the iPhone! And if i am to be believed Apple is going to hit each and every segment of the market by 2009. We might well see as many as three new iPhones. Apple is currently busy with designing of its new gizmos, filing patents and preparing for its mega release.

Recent reports suggested a Clamshell (with Dual-Sided TrackPad), while previously we heard about future iPhones with keyboards. I feel both of these are coming. A Keypad (if not a QWERTY) and a Clamshell along with a much needed upgrade to the current iPhone (Read: 3G+). Apple Chief Steve Jobs has set a target of selling 10 million (1 crore) iPhones by year end, and once they near the target we shall see the new iPhones being announced!

In my view, the future of PMP is not as bright as it looked a couple of years back. Today a cellphone integrates quality camera and music. And that’s where the future is. The basic Digicams are already facing tough competition from camera mobiles, and by next year, we shall see that these smartphones have successfully integrated a DigiCam (read Optical Zoom), PDA & PMP.
All that I can say is Apple is here to stay, they will try to target each and every segment of the market, media has always been their strong point and with the recent updates on the iPhone they have pushed their concentration towards the business users as well. Hopefully we will see a rollout across the globe with the future iPhones…
