TalkMe – Gives voice to your SMS via Cydia (Free)

TalkMe is a simple text to speech application for the iPhone, it only reads your messages (no mail, notes etc.).  It gives your messages a voice and reads them. When I saw this app on Cydia I was pretty excited as it was first of its kind but when i downloaded it and used it I realised that it was not that great.

When you open the app you will get a list of all your messages but the order of the messages goes haywire ( Its not proper). The list has no organization and is almost impossible to navigate logically. There is also no search tab so you can search by name or text.  But there are a few options that you can change in the Settings.

When you select the Info-Setting button in the lower left corner, it will open the Settings page. Here you have the option to change the Language, change the voice speed (the higher the voice speed the slower they talk, the lower the voice speed the faster they talk) and also turn on/off show only unread text messages. One feature I like in this app  is that you can test the app right in the Settings page. Just type any text into the blank below the Test button and then select Test and it will read you the text you have entere. I suggest that you  should turn on the show only unread text messages option to make the list more appropriate and organized. To read ay text message just tap on it.

The app does exactly what it says. It converts text to speech. However apart from that the app is pretty bad. Its difficult to use as you cannot find your text messages as the list is not organized and you cant even search with name or text. Moreover the app only reads text messages and not mails or notes which is pretty sad. I think that the app needs an upgrade desperately and fix the following issues asap.

To download this app search for ‘talkme’ onCydia
