Apple shifting from AT&T? Verizon? Unlocked? Multiple carriers?

Apple is hunting the right formula for the next gen iPhones. Rumors suggest that Verizon Wireless is being preferred above AT&T this time for a exclusive tie up. The 5 year exclusive tieup with AT&T has ensured Apple a steady flow of revenues from iPhone users. The profit margin in such a setup is much higher than a simple device sale. But to reach deeper into the masses Apple might have a very different strategy this time around.

While AT&T is already known to house the iPhone and iPhone 3G; iPhone 3rd gen might be launched with Verizon Wireless. If not we believe that Multiple carriers could be choosen along with Unlocked devices aswell. The recently announced Palm PRE is Sprint exclusive and is considered to be the toughest competitor that iPhone has seen till date! Apple certainly needs to swtich gears and make an impact with the 2009 iPhones… So shall we expect the unexpected?
