RipDev is on a roll. The iPhone authority just recently announced the desktop client for installing apps to jailbroken iPhones and here they have something really exciting. A Cydia alternative ‘ICY’. Video Review /Demo downstairs

ICY Features:

  • Slick Interface:

The whole interface was designed with three goals in mind: fast, effective, cool. Cydia interface and browsing was not utilizing the iPhone features to the fullest. The UI of ICY is amazing and swipe features are put in use.

  • Built on Open Source Foundation:

Built on the same DPKG standard as Cydia this one is open source and fully compatible with Cydia apps / packages. All Cydia sources & packages are already installed on ICY as soon as you install it. So the moment you install it, its ready to replace your Cydia. (Just refresh to get started)

  • Fast & Light:

ICY is a 1MB software compared to 32MB of Cydia. Loads faster, provides quicker navigation, the annoying Reloading of packages of Cydia is now gone!

  • Landscape mode is here:

Now browse the Apps you want to install in Landscape mode. ICY works in Landscape mode aswell

  • Bandwidth Saver:

ICY is designed to consume minimum internet traffic and hence save bandwidth and speed up stuff

Icy only downloads headers when refreshing repositories, so it won’t download again the indeces that were not changed – this saves on your traffic and makes the refreshes faster. It will pick up existing Cydia repositories and also will allow you to add more through its Add Source interface.

We recommed ICY over Cydia and it looks really great. Though we still miss a few features like:

  • Queing apps for installation
  • Does not show the latest apps that are added or old apps that are updated as seen in the Cydia changes menu (still checking the app, not found this so far)
  • The app crashed a couple of times and is a little sticky, but it still looks stable and must be fine with a update (hope so). Updated packages do not install; gives an error. Guess its having problems updating apps installed by Cydia – though it gives the option to do so. – Update: ICY 1.1 is out with Bug Fixes…

How To Install RIPDEV ICY

From Cydia: Add a new source http://apt.ripdev.com and then install Icy from the Packaging category.

From Installer: Icy is available in the System category of Installer.

instale el icy pero cuando busco una aplicacion no me instala y me dice que hay un error, y no se instala, el error que dice es:
“El paquete xxxxx no puede ser instalado (DPKG ha reportado el error #2).
luego al dar clic para ver el reporte dice:
“dpkg: status database area is locked by another process.
