Apple captures 1.5% of mobile sales

Apple has managed to raise its market share with the Apple iPhone to 1.5%, that’s up 0.4% from Q1 (2008 end) which has them at 1.1%. With just 1 model out in the market (the iPhone 3G), this is a superb performance from Apple.

Apple has sold 3.79 million iPhone’s in Q1 of 2009 (more on iPhone Q1 sales). Thats still more than what Nokia 5800 and Lg Cookie has managed (2.8 million and 2 million respectively).  The iPhone 3G is almost a year old and reaching the end of life with iPhone 3.0 coming up in June / July.

iPhone has a very popular App Store that gives it a unique edge amongst rising competition in the touch screen space. 2 years back they changed the way people looked at smart-phones with the iPhone. We feel this time the competition is much more aware of Apple’s plans and has things up their sleeves. Palm Pre, Nokia N97, Androids … all are coming; iPhone – can you continue the momentum?

(Probably iPhone 3.0 OS Beta 4 for developers would reveal concretely (if at all that comes), what Apple has in store)
