Rumors suggest that Apple is working towards increasing the affordability of its Mac lineup. This would mean cheaper models / price cuts in the coming months. Apple has been targetted often for its expensive gadgets but at the same time appreciated universally for its innovation and style.
Unlike Windows, Mac OS is bundled along with the hardware that Apple manufacturers. Microsoft in its recent AD campaign targetted Apple for its expensive machines. Apple is certainly under pressure take Macs to the masses, specially in developing economies. The recession is yet to show its effect on Apple, thanks to the iPhone; but netbook is the trend and affordability/availability of a PC is one of its biggest selling points. Cheaper Macs looks a great possibility to me.
Apple is also very like to present a netbook type device at WWDC 09, possibly running on the iPhone OS 3.0 (I doubt that wont be cheap!). It would be extremely difficult for Apple to make something that lives up to its own expectations and would be cheap. Steve Jobs himself once said, “We don’t know how to build a sub-$500 computer that is not a piece of junk”. Hope we see something good.
