Apple rumors are nothing new in the tech world. After Twitter here comes the latest one – Apple buying EA? How true the rumors are, is something I would leave time to decide – but lets look at Why Apple would like to buy Electronic Arts:
- Games on iPhone are a super hit. With its own multi-core processors planned for iPhone / iTouch / Macs; EA can provide some real entertainment value. With iPod touch being rumored to be a PSP killer in near future, a publisher like EA would be something Apple would love to have on its side.
- One of the biggest complains for Mac users has been the lack of good games like PC. This would fill the gap
- Apple has loads of cash in the bank, while EA is facing the recession heat. Valuations would be good for Apple. With global recession already passed its peak, situation would be much better by year end
These rumors carries some weight as Apple recently hired people from the gaming industry. Excited anyone?
About EA:
Electronic Arts is an American developer and publisher of computer and video games. They own well known game studios such as Bioware, Mythic, and Maxis games and have developed titles from the Need for Speed series to to Crysis.

“These rumors carries some weight as Apple recently hired people from the gaming industry.” Wrong – on the Contrary: Why hire gaming staff if you are planning on acquiring a major game developer.
@prasado: People hired are
1) Richard Teversham – XBOX Strategist
2) Bob Drebin, CTO AMD’s graphics group
Both hardware guyz. EA fills in the game development part. Makes sense. Still a wild rumor
Apple had better wait until they get some serious gaming hardware on the iPhone/iPod Touch before try and acquire EA. iPhone gamers are still saying the game titles are falling short of PSP-class games in terms of frame count and such.
And many are still dissatisfied about not having standard control buttons. Old-time gamers are just not happy with touch and accelerometer-based games which is perfectly understandable that users cannot change their ways in a short time. The “old way” always remains the best in their minds.
Its about valuations dear. Apple has $30billion cash…
They picked up a chip maker a year back, no signs of a product yet. You never know what is happening on the background.
