Palm Pre record breaker for Sprint, tough competition for iPhone 3GS

Palm Pre is turning out to be a winner for Palm and Sprint. With people crashing their cars into Sprint stores and hammering their iPhones to show their love for the Pre, the WebOS powered Blackberry-iPhone mash is sailing well.

Over the opening weekend, Palm Pre has already broken all previous launch records for Sprint. Though Sprint hasn’t provided any specific details on sales or which device Palm Pre beats to take the no 1 spot, it is believed that Pre has sold 50000 units (as per J.P. Morgan analyst Paul Coster) and overtakes the Samsung Instinct setting record opening sales for Sprint.

While the Pre certainly does not beat the iPhone in sales, the WebOS powered device is the strongest competitor iPhone has seen. iPhone 3GS covers up some lost ground with Cut Copy Paste, Digital Compass, Video recording, VoiceOver etc. But Pre looks impressive with equally good touch features, multitasking & physical Qwerty doubled with a compact design. As expected though iPhone 3GS remains a step ahead of the Pre, Apple need to watch out for Pre2 from Palm (whenever it comes).
