Update (Note from editor): One error in this post as highlighted to us by our twitter friends is that the Cnet release that we referred to didn’t mention 9th August, but only August for the countries listed above under 9th August. While I am not 100% sure on how this happened (the author of the post no longer writes for us), there are some explanations.

There were rumors and talks of an 8 or 9th August launch date for the iPhone 3GS in India (on many sites and twitter aswell), and probably the writer took one of these dates as the rumored August release date. While it would have been right to classify India under 9th August (this post was marked under rumors as no official confirmation from Apple was received), the entire list of countries for August was mistakenly marked as 9th August. The post didn’t catch my eye as I had a word with a contact in Vodafone India who told me that they are indeed planning to launch the iPhone In India sometime in the first half of August (and thus the source was not looked up in detail by me). Sincere apologies to our Janta for marking all the other countries in the same Aug 9 bracket as India. On August 2, I had a suspicion on this and I wrote about the iPhone 3GS in India again. Where out community members have also given much contribution in the form of comments.
