There have been huge speculations whether or not iPhone 3GS is jail-breakable or not. However, the good news for our old iPhone users running 2g or 3G is that firmware 3.0 is jail-breakable as well as unlockable. As we had mentioned in a recent article that though cydia has appeared on 3.0, its still a bit buggy. Also all the cydia apps install on 2.0 but only some work or function properly.
Lately, Cydia saw a lot of packages being updated for supporting 3.0 like NES, MivTones etc. But some apps are as it is compatible with 3.0. Also Cydia is a bit buggy on 3.o and is slow. It crashes a few times specially when trying to que packages. One more thing noticed is that when you respring your springboard it goes blank for a few seconds instead of the round thing.
So below is a list of all the apps which work perfectly on iPhone 3.0
- Winterboard - Though there were doubts over this app not working on 3.0, we checked it out ourselves and it works fine. Individual themes might have compatibility issues. Do leave us a comment below with your findings…
- SbSettings – One of my favorite apps on the iPhone and I’m happy that its there on iPhone firmware 3.0
- iRealSMS - Though copy/paste feature has officially arrived on iPhone 3.0 making message forwarding easier, iRealSMS is the perfect app for Messages
- Categories - Another great app for the iPhone which allows you to create folders and add apps into it saving you the time to find your apps.
- iFile - Replacement for MobileFinder, iFile allows you to access system files and also supports all media formats for videos and audio.
- Cydelete – Allows you to delete cydia/icy apps installed on the iPhone directly from your springboard
- dTunes - A media app which allows you to download and play songs/videos on your iPhone
- Mxtube - A good replacement for youtube app, also supports downloading videos
- mQuickDo - A virtual home key button!
- Safari Download Plugin – Download files to your iPhone via Safari
- Call Clear/iCall Br – Allows single deletion of call log and also check call duration. But its paid for $2.99
- MobileLog – Single Log deletion and also sms deletion. I prefer it over iCall Br
- <Doubtful> MewSeek Pro ? – Allows downloading of songs and syncing it to your default music player
- PwnPlayer – A substitute to your default iPod
- 26/6/09 Backgrounder for iPhone 3.0 is out. However, it has only the basic features. Additional features will come later when the app is upgraded.

Cycorder does work on 3.0 !!! i have been using it without any problems at all
Cycorder works fine on 3.0 as does LockDown…
however lockdown has a hitch…it does lock the apps, but on entering the password for a locked app, the app doesnt open…instead the phone crashes and goes to safe mode…the only option is to open LockDown again and unlock or turn off the dylib and then use the apps.

and about cycorder, I tried re-installing the app but it still doesn’t work and keeps crashing..tried the new yxcoder but even that is not upto the mark..
FontSwap doesn’t work on 3.0 as well..

Cycorder works perfect for me as well.
Also for a side note:
99% of the time when things don’t work right(crashes), simply re-jailbreak.
0.5% of the time you need to simply reboot.
0.5% its just a buggy app that wont crash.
Think of it this way, crashing is good because if it didnt, the processor would continuously run in an exponential way and over heat which would be bad.

Winterboard won’t show up when I dl it. During the dl it gives me only one error
The sms themes dont work either ive tried almost everyone of them and none of them work

PwnPlayer doesn’t work on 3.0. It just opens then crashes.
Transparent dock/custome dock is not working for me with winterboard but most othet mods works tho. Havnt found à single theme yet that is complete with 3.0! (iphone 2g fw 3.0)

spoofmac doesnt work but i really would love to find out a way to spoof my mac address and that program seems to be the only one to work, can someone help?
i have the 3.0 update on my i-phone and i can’t get the internet to work with t-mobile.There is not an apn section ti place the code for the internet.What do i need to do?
Jailbroke with redsn0w no prob. Everything is good. BUT Keyboard apps do not work.
And I have the emoji emoticon keyboard installed. The funny thing is that after I jailbroke My 3G iPhone the 2 bottom end (lower left and lower right) buttons disapeard from sight on the emoji keyboard only. They still work but you can’t see them. Bugging the crap out of me. The lower left is the button that switches keyboards and the lower right is the backspace.

iBluetooth does work, I’ve sent and received files on 3.0 2G phone..
The version I have is the onen from xsellize I think..
LockDown is now working perfectly fine and FontSwap is up and running again!
I have winterboard, and a few mods installed from cydia,
All of which I’m happy to say are working. Perfection theme is not compatible with 3.0 fw sends my phone into safe mode also alot of the SMS themes do not work.

3gs 32gb white iPhone.
Cydia is not opening at all. it crashes on 3.0 and iblacklist does not work I deleted the iblacklist and the sysytem crashed and is non operational now
