Oleophobic coating on iPhone 3GS wearing off? Heating Issues?

Initially as, I heard about iPhone 3G S heating issues, I dismissed it as rumors (or isolated incidents) that we hear of every time Apple has a new launch (remember the iPhone 3G body cracks?). Some silly claim to fame tactics… Adding to my doubt was Macworlds article on the Temperature warning screen on the iPhone 3G / 3GS. However, as late as it may be, I stumbled upon this image of a white iPhone 3GS turning pink due to heat.

Apple blames the heating issues (wrt to the temperature warning) on hot weather. However, no clarification on discoloration and body damage due to heat is issued. The issue is still reported by a extremely tiny majority, but we would certainly keep our ears open for more on this.

Another issue reported by Engadget today shows the oleophobic coating on the iPhone 3GS screen wearing off (see image). Blaming it on hot weather anyone?

Update:

There seems to be some explanation to this discoloration on the white iPhone. This might be a result of some leather cover. Personally I have seen the metal fuel tank on my Cruiser get discolored by leather cover, so the iPhone 3GS being affected by leather looks very possible.
