TechCrunch has some really exciting insider info on upcoming camera iPods by Apple. Apparently some Asian sources tells TC that Apple has ordered huge number of camera modules. The quantity of the order being so large that it can only be justified by iPods with Video capability. While iPhone 3GS surely manages to do a great job with Video, does Apple want to giveaway Video on the iPod so easily?
Apple surely looks to make the iPod Touch a gaming device along with a killer PMP. But does a camera fit in before a lot of other things? The sleek nature design of the iPod nano and the iPod touch would be shattered if they add a camera to it. IMO Atmost we can expect an iPod Touch with HD support this year, such that it better competes with the Zune HD. But knowing Apple, they wouldn’t be chasing the competition. Even if, the iPod Touch gets, a camera (digital or video), the iPod Nano and Classic getting a camera (and probably OS X then?) looks like a far stretched estimate
How about the Apple netbook / mediapad (whatever!) rumors we are hearing since long? Can’t that be with a webcam? Cant this $10 camera be the 3MP one used in iPhone 3G S and the same thing that will be used in iPod Touch/Netbook?
The timeline for Apple to refresh its iPod series is around September. Guess we shall wait till then to find out. The iPod with camera rumors are supported by leaked cases but so was the iPhone Nano….!
