FoneArena has a tip on the iPhone 3GS launch price for India. According to them the 16Gb version of the new iPhone would cost Rs 32000 and the 32GB one would retail for Rs 39000. We cant be sure if this is real, but personally the estimate looks very much a wild speculation to me. The difference of Rs 7000 between the two models and the increased pricing is what puts a doubt in our mind. The launch date is being confirmed as August 9, just as we heard before.
iPhone 3G was considered an expensive phone and the sales weren’t too great (in India) and at the same time, in US the 3GS currently retails at the same price as the 3G did. So a Rs 2000 increase in the India pricing is certainly unfair. With Android launching in India, Apple should sense some competition. Also watch out for the Palm Pre that would launch before year end!
Update: We are also hearing that the iPhone 3G (2nd Generation) would not be discontinued. Instead it will retail in the range of Rs 24000-25000.

One change we have noticed from the network providers (vodafone and airtel) is that like the last time they aren’t promoting iPhone 3GS like they did to iPhone 3G. During the launch of iPhone 3G there were messages sent to all users to book their iPhones in advance, there were banners placed at their galleries etc. I wonder why aren’t they doing that now for the 3GS

why do you want to buy iphone in India if it would be your short stay? iphone comes locked with the service provider which may not work in Netherland or you will be on international roaming all the time when you go back home??
In combination with a subscription your are right. But I am in the understanding I can buy only the Iphone without any lock or something
