iTunes App Store: 65000 apps live, 1.5 billion downloads

Apple is seeing continuous success with the App Store. Shortly after seeing 1billion downloads and 50000 apps here is another quick achievement. Over 100000 developers have managed to put up 65000 apps as of today on the iTunes AppStore. Not only that, the AppStore has seen 1.5billion downloads till date!

While Apple’s competitors are either still working on their App platform are finding it hard to cement their foot in the space, Apple manages to raise the bar for any competition higher each time it posts new figures. The first 500 million downloads on the App Store took 6 months to come, while the next 500 million marching up to the billion was in just 3 months. The latest jump from 1 billion to 1.5 billion comes in less than 3 months. Thats really showcases the power of the iPod touch and the iPhone software market with 50 apps being downloaded every second.

The best part with  the iTunes AppStore is the fact that all old apps are compatible with the latest iPhone / iPod Touch OS 3.0. This helps developers keep the momentum and keep their sales intact.

Steve Jobs commented:

The App Store is like nothing the industry has ever seen before in both scale and quality. With 1.5 billion apps downloaded, it is going to be very hard for others to catch up.
