Unlocking, Jailbreaking or downgrading the firmware of your iPhone can be one of the most challenging tasks. One common problem that we all face while doing to is putting the iPhone in DFU mode. DFU mode basically puts the iPhone or the iTouch in a special recovery mode that lets you restore it with any firmware version you like without much resistance by iTunes.

Here are the simple steps to enter DFU mode:

  1. You start with the iPhone or iPod touch powered off. To power off just hold the power button on the top for 5 secs and use the slider to switch off.
  2. Connect the iPhone or the iPod to the PC with your data cable. Make sure you dont use any USB extensions or splitters, connect to your laptop or desktop (or mac) directly.
  3. Now hold the power button and the home button together for 10 seconds. The device shall boot…
  4. Leave the power button and continue to hold the home button for 30 seconds
  5. The iPhone or the iPod touch should enter the DFU mode automatically, if not – repeat the steps
