As expected Apple updated the iPhone / iPod touch firmware at its annual music event. This saw some cool new features like genius for apps going live. Interestingly Apple has released firmware version 3.1.1 for iPod touch and 3.1 for iPhones. However with MMS service going live for the 3G and 3GS by AT&T in US on 25/9, OS 3.1.1 for the iPhone would certainly show up. This probably adds more challenges to the dev team. Apple has updated the baseband version in its 3.1 release and currently there are no tools officially out to unlock or jailbreak the same.
However there has been some buzz on a jailbreak / unlock tool being in works and if you really need all those Cydia applications and unlocking, you should probably wait for the updated pwnage tool. I would guess that the dev team would wait till 25th Sept and see through firmware version 3.1.1. for the iPhone before releasing any updated version of redsn0w and ultrasn0w.

Ohh crap..so is there a jail-break and unlock coming to iPhone 3GS..For countries in Asia where the iPhone hasn’t been released the firmware would be the latest so would we be able to unlock it..What is davteam doing..And where is that guy geohot..We need an unlock and jailbreak for iPhone 3.1 or 3.1.1
The article here mentions that dev team are currently working on the upgraded version 3.1..However, it says that we will have to wait until dev team or geohot releases the updated version of redsnow or ultrasnow..So be careful while upgrading and read the dev team blog before going on firmware 3.1
I just had my iPhone on 3.0 software and it was jailboken using redsn0w. I installed something on Cydia and my iPhone froze and wouldnt respond. Then I put it on recovery mode and had to update to 3.1 Now I have to wait for PwnageTool3.1

I don’t read many websites on App/Upgrade news and i was in the throws of enjoying and working with a very recent jailbreak to my very new Iphone 3GS.. had i known what the itunes update would do, i wouldn’t have done it, i have lost 5h1t loads of great apps… back to originals….
PLEASE fins a break for this stupidity and give me my sanity back !!!
just donwload 3.0 off internet go to itunes left clic while pressing shift on were it says restore chose the 3.0 firmware and click ok

Nope..the jailbreak is now available on 2g and 3g..but not on 3GS…however you can downgrade as saurik as released some trick to do it..check the recent article on this site..

it is really easy to find 3.0 firmware. but you might have to download it from bittorent or something, not by direct download from your internet browser..thats what i idid
