app wall lost

WOW! Thats blazing speed and widening the gap every passing minute for the competition. Apple iTunes App Store has crossed 2 billion app downloads (and it does not include updates) in just over a year of existence. With over 50million iPhones and iPod touch out in the market these figures will keep on pouring in for sure.

The app store now houses 85000 apps that are available in 77 countries. Apple has 125000 developers registered for the iPhone platform.

Competitors have tried to counter the iPhone’s appstore with mobile widgets, but instead have landed on their face with slow and complicated software. Apple has retained the same screen size for all iPod touch and iPhones in the last two years. This has enabled them to avoid much compatibility issues and wasted developer resource for developing apps to suit multiple screen sizes.

“The rate of App Store downloads continues to accelerate with users downloading a staggering two billion apps in just over a year, including more than half a billion apps this quarter alone,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. “The App Store has reinvented what you can do with a mobile handheld device, and our users are clearly loving it.”
