Palm WebOS 1.2.1 brings back iTunes sync for Pre

Guess we spoke a little too early on the Palm Pre – iTunes syncing issue. Even though the USB implementers forum declared that Palm is in violation of its norms while making the Palm Pre pose as an iPod to sync with Apple iTunes software, the latest update to Palm’s WebOS (v1.2.1) brings back the iTunes syncing capability.

Apple and Palm have been playing cat and mouse with this issue since a while now. Every new update to Apple iTunes breaks the Pre syncing and every other WebOS update brings back that hack. And pretty much to our surprise, even though the official complaint made to USB implementers forum by Palm, fired back on them, they still continue to go after Apple and re-enable the sync.

Ever since the Palm Pre was demoed with its multi-touch abilities, a Palm vs Apple scenario has been created. Apparently Palm got very close to Apple’s patented touch technology, but nothing more than a little word of caution from Apple COO, Tim Cook came out of that ApplevsPalm lawsuit hype.

So for now the Palm Pre with latest WebOS version 1.2.1 works well with iTunes 9, however I have a feeling rather we know that this is not the end yet!

I actually own a Palm Pre, and I can say that I’m very happy I can sync my phone with it. I bought the music. I bought the mac. It’s all my money. Why should Apple then run into the room saying “Oh-ho-ho, hold up champ. You can’t use your property how you want to!”
