Samsung manages 10 million unit sales with Star

iPhone has done great business selling over 33.7 million units till date. For many the Jesus Phone is a dream and the dream, is full filled by similar looking full touchscreen phones (just as we hinted before) that cost a fraction of that the 3GS would cost you with a contract. Seeing great success with such phones, Samsung has proudly sold over 10million Star S5230 phones.

The Star series phones from Samsung are cheap and well featured touchscreen devices which comes in 3 variants (2G S5230 / 3G and WiFi). The best part is that Samsung took just 6 months to hit the 10 million mark for the S5230. Though there is nothing ground breaking about the star series phones nor has the high end ones like the JET done a great job, but the pricing and global reach work for the Star commercially.

On similar lines LG has done well with its KP500 aka Cookie and a host of other devices revolving around the same low cost touchscreen have been released by other manufacturers and they have actually done well. Perhaps the Nokia 5800 is the right combination of features and price, but others like the LP Pop, Nokia 5230, Corby by Samsung again etc are crowding the low end space.

The impending Nokia X6 will only add to the competition. Apple would certainly do better with a $99 3GS, but it needs to target the global market. The iPhone is far from affordable (compared to US) in Asia. But guess quality comes for a price, and Apple certainly isn’t a co that would compromise on that front!
