We aren’t new to Microsoft making apps for the iPhone / iPod touch. After all the popularity of the Jesus phone is certainly worth tapping for any player in the Silicon Valley. After Seadragon and TAG, we are hearing that Microsoft is now preparing to bring Silverlight to the iPhone.
iPhone / iPod touch owners have been deprived of a Flash enabled handheld but it seems that Microsoft has Apple’s approval (if not support) to let the Silverlight come to the iTouch. Silverlight helps you create rich web applications that run on Mac OS, Windows, and Linux.

“We’re translating the content to support the MPEG2 v8 [decoder] format that the iPhone format; we’re moving it to their adaptive streaming format. So it’s the same IIS smooth streaming content, the same server, the same point of origin, but now I can get that content to play without any code changes, without any real work, on the iPhone. That’s the critical thing for our customers.” – Microsoft UX Platform Manager Brian Goldfarb while demoing Silverlight working on an iPhone to wirelessly stream H.264 video at the Professional Developer Conference ‘09.
