Can the 3GS stand the Androids in first half of 2010?

Google is going aggressive with Android. The Droid was aggressively pushed out with the Android 2.0 and has managed to, please many. Though when it comes to Droid vs iPhone 3GS, the competition looks tough with both phones having their own USP. However, the plethora of Android devices we are going to see in 2010 will bring many impressive ones before the usual iPhone refresh time in July.

Recent rumors indicate that Android v2.1 would make it to the Google phone in Jan 2010, and if the leaked Motorola App store for Android is any indicator, they surely have some cool Android devices rolling out. Early reviewers comment the upcoming HTC Passion / Google Phone as

“Google Phone = iPhone + a little extra screen and a scroll wheel. Great touch screen, and Android.”

Given the momentum Google has put behind Android with a developing app store, multi touch support, support for advanced gaming and the turn by turn GPS Navigation; the iPhone 3GS will appear out of date if the Android devices in Q1 2010 deliver to expectations (and the  4G doesn’t make an appearance before June/July). While we may cry over the absence of the 3GS and Palm Pre from the global market, Android with its dozens of offerings might truly rule the smartphone marketshare next year. Watchout iPhoners!
