New iPhone to have a touch-sensitive back cover? | All on the iPhone, iPod touch & iPad

The Apple magic mouse is good use of touch tech on a gadget surface. And if rumors are to be believed the same is on its way to the iPhone 4G. Goldman Sachs analyst Robert Chen expects the iPhone 4G to have a touch-sensitive body like the Apple magic mouse. This would allow users to make gestures on the iPhone body instead of the touchscreen to control the device. This excites me for one simple reason that my fingers take up much of the beautiful 3.5″ iPhone screen when playing games. And such a technology would make it possible to keep the hands-off the display.

With the annual refresh date for the iPhone coming nearer the intensity of rumors are increasing. Over the past few weeks we have heard almost everything ranging from Apple tablets loaded with a projector to multicore processor on an Apple hand-held. As wild as the rumors can get, its always good to have a reality check: the rd gen 3GS still lacks a multitasking & a good camera with flash.

this also means that you won’t be able to use a case with your iphone, or a case that only protects corners? I don’t think apple will do this out of functionality..

Hmmm, i feel the same. but then see what they did to the new shuffle? you can use standard earphones without a special accessory… so wrt to iPhone with touchsensitive back, there would be specialized accessories.
