Geohot who originally hacked the Apple iPhone when he was just 17 has released numerous jailbreak and unlocks for the iPhone / iPod touch recently. And he isn’t stopping at just Apple, while we do expect him to repeat his magic with the Apple tablet this year; George Hotz has actually went ahead and hacked the Sony Playstation 3. A hardware hack that took 5 weeks of work does the PS3. Terming the PS3 as a ‘very secure system’, Geohot admitted that he hasn’t been able to hack the device completely, but enough to play old PS2 games, pirated games and hombrew apps.
“It’s supposed to be unhackable, but nothing is unhackable,” Hotz told the BBC. Hotz admitted that while he had not managed to hack the entire system, he was able to “trick” the console into doing whatever he wanted by using a hardware exploit.
While Hotz isn’t terming this as a research, the pirate market would be eagerly waiting for him to disclose the hack – for you know what
