We had heard tones of Apple tablet rumors before the iPad was officially announced. So what amongst the crazy pile of rumors survived, what didn’t? One crazy thing we did see is 6 different SKU’s for the iPad. And then Unlocked? Not expensive? Quite unApple that was. But you know where Apple is headed – to the masses…
The Apple tablet rumors that lived!.
- Apple designing its own chips for portables – It was rumored ages back that Apple is working on its own chips to power handhelds. These were said to be multicore mobile chips that would support superior gaming. Apple having acquired chip maker PA Semi in 2005, this was quite expected. And it did happen with Apple announcing that the iPad is powered by the 1GHz Apple A4 chip – that according to Steve Jobs – ‘screams’. Not sure if the A4 is multicore, but it sure is good.
- Tablet coming in January along with an 8GB 3GS – OK half of this did happen. Apple did announce the tablet, but the 8GB 3GS didn’t make a show. The logic was pretty simple, the increasing Android competition pressuring Apple. But that certainly isn’t the case.
- Apple tablet is going to be a Kindle Killer? Amazon isn’t complaining much, I am sure. But it is quite a Kindle killer at $499. Just wait for Jobs to announce the media partnerships.
- Apple wants “iPad” Trademark, fighting with Fujitsu to get it: Well they sure want it now. Reminds of the settlement with CISCO for iPhone trademark.
- Data from Flurry shows the Tablet: Data from Flurry shows the Tablet: Over 50 Apple tablets were reported to be going live in the Cupertino campus testing as many as 200 apps. Spot on, all 140k App store apps work on the iPad.
- Last minute predictions from NY Times: They got it all right with 3G, WiFi, ebook reader, color screen. But the only thing wrong was the 10″ screen. It turned out to be 9.7″. Benefit of doubt?

- Apple naming its tablet – TabletMac – Wish they had 😛
- Apple tablet definitely going to be a 7? – The moment I heard this I thought, why not a 4″ iPhone instead? There isn’t a major difference between 3.5″ iPhone and the supposed 7″ tablet. Thankfully this wasn’t true.
- Apple owns iSlate.com, so thats the tablet name? – Even this wasn’t true. We wish it was. Certainly better than iPad and TabletMac.
- Apple sourcing 10? screens for the tablet – Yeah, probably just another lame attempt to get some traction.
- Tablet coming in January along with an 8GB 3GS – Where is the 8GB 3GS guys?
- Crazy leaked specs (Projector etc) -So this rumor said that the iPad is coming with 2GB ram, C2D CPU, 7.1″ screen, projector etc. None of it true. A Complete #fail.
- Fingerworks site goes down, glass case spotted – The Glass case shows round corners and a speaker opening. Complete fake, just an over-sized iPhone.
- Apple holding back iPhone OS version 4.0, until the Slate is confirmed? – Unfortunately this one still runs on the OS 3.2. Though I am hoping that the OS 4.0 will come up with some magic in June along with iPhone 4th gen 🙂
