Apple hunting down WiFi sniffing apps from App Store?

After cleaning the US appstore by cleaning out the obvious sexual content aggregators, Apple now seems to be gunning down WiFi finder apps. There are a plenty of iPhone apps that lets you hunt for free / open wifi networks and enjoy free internet. Apart from the illegal use of private wifi networks there are also security concerns by use of such an app. Some of the banned apps include WiFi-Where, WiFiFoFum and yFy Network Finder.

The developers of these apps are told that they were using a private framework to access wifi information and thus the apps are deleted. However you never know what are the actual pressures on Apple to do so . For the moment you can borrow a WiFi Cap to do the trick 🙂
