I personally havn’t been a great fan of the Apple iPad, but the apps continue to amaze me. The iPad app which I really felt in love with was the Marvel Comics app. Today, I came across another beautiful iPad application which will give you an amazing trip, packed with brilliant visuals and easy to make music. It is O-GAWA, the future beat machine.

Developed by Yudo Inc. the same guys who brought us the Matrix Music Pad and other amazing music making apps on the iPhone, this app is a must on you iPad. When we first got the app it was really very hard to understand and it took us time and a little musical expertise to understand the possibilities of this future beat machine. Also, you cannot understand it all by your own without a little reference material or experimentation. But, this is not what this app is all about as the amazing part is yet to come.

Later when we developed finesse over the app the fun had just begun. It has the total ability to immerse your mind into the realms of its trippy visuals and music which is your own creation. It has two modes which make this application a good success. The Play mode, which allows you to play with your creation and the Editing mode, which lets you edit the music loop.

Play Mode:

The play mode lets you customize your visuals and add some effects to you loop. It has the low pass filter which allows the user to add a really brilliant effect by filtering the low pass. Also you can play with the visual object itself by changing it to any shape you want too. It lets you set the tempo by using the “Tap Tempo” feature, it also lets you play a short loop or reverse loop by simply taping screen. It has a volume object on the screen which let you control the volume.

Editing Mode:

The editing mode is the brilliance behind the O-GAWA app. You can easily arrange the beats with a simple tap by arranging them in ½ or ¼ beat patterns. It has a total of 15 sounds and it lets play with 6 different tracks. You can also easily drag and edit the arrangement. eg: you can drag and delete or arrange the selected in any of the two beat patterns. Sadly you cannot select different sounds for a particular track, which I felt was really very annoying as after some time it started sounding very monotonous. Anyways, once you have finished editing the loop you can go back to the play mode and start messing with it.

Other features include the ability to customize your visual object which can be accessed from settings. You can also select the colors from the same panel and finally there is a button which will reset all the settings just incase you are lost.

To finish this, I have to say that this is a bit difficult to learn and hard to understand but once you get a hand of it you will feel that this is a must have app for your iPad. It is a really good entertainer and it may also help you improve your musical skills.
