(HD Video Review) Text+ and TextNow: Apps for texting from the iPad

If you decided to spring for the iPad but still wanted to experience texting on one of Apple’s beautiful IPS screens, well, we have something for you.  Text+ and TextNow are our two favorite texting applications that each take a unique approach to text messaging on the iPad. (Video review after the jump)

With TextNow from the people at Enflick Inc, you can send text messages to any number or contact, all in a slick, intuitive interface. TextNow also supports, emoticons, and lets you send pictures from your photo album. With the ability to change your ringtone and signature with this app, its a winner for the most feature-rich texting app on the iPad. The paid version is $1, and there is a free version of TextNow in the App Store, the only difference between them of course is the existence of advertisements within the app.

While not having quite as nice of an interface as TextNow, textPlus by GOGII, it contains some features left out of TextNow, things like group chat, and being able to access favorites and recent contacts right in the app. It also lets you text from just one number, which makes it easier for the other party to contact you, as opposed to texting with TextNow and sending from a different number with each new message. This app does NOT support emoticons, nor can it send/receive pictures. You can download textPlus for free in the App Store, and in addition you can pay $3 a year to GOGII in order to use it advertisement-free.

While lacking some key features, this app makes up for them somewhat by allowing you to text with just one number, and the inclusion of a group chat feature.
That being said, we still pick TextNow as our favorite for texting on our iPads.
