iPhone 4 (CDMA) already shipping to Asia? (Japan?)

It seems that the CDMA iPhone 4 is heading out of US even before Verizon starts selling them. Akhiabaranews is reporting that KIDDI’s AU is all set to be the second carrier in Japan to carry an iPhone (which would be the CDMA version). Currently Softbank sells the iPhone 4 in Japan and is extremely popular. This sure raises our expectations of a CDMA iPhone 4 in India aswell (Reliance and tata are believed to be the runners)!

During the Verizon iPhone4 launch, Tim Cook (COO, Apple) had answered that the Verizon deal is ‘non exclusive’. Not sure if Sprint can have their luck in US, but internationally it makes sense for Apple to spread out as much as possible. CDMA players in India have a tighter control on the handset market and Apple can do better sales than what they have been managing so far with Airtel/Vodafone.

For once we are happy to have the GSM, CDMA mess across the world 😛
