Apple has taken a shot at Samsung this time! With an increasingly confusing lawsuit mess between smartphone innovators, this would add up as another pending dispute in the court. Apple claims 10 patents against Samsung, apart from allegations that they have copied the design of Apple products in the Galaxy series of phones and tablets. This includes the UI (icons etc).
Samsung has had its own chasing to do with Apple taking away the tablet market and still maintaing good traction in the high end smartphone segment. They admitted that the Galaxy Tab 10.1 isn’t a match for the iPad 2 and quickly announced a new version of the same (along with price cut). Incidentally, Apple’s arch rival in mobile platform domain ‘Android by Google’ is what Samsung uses in its Galaxy range. The news of Android doing 350,000 activations a day sure didn’t go down well with Apple.
Apple and Samsung have working relationship. Apple sources a lot of NAND flash memory from Samsungs memory division and it is rumored that they have a partnership for Apple’s A4/A5 chips and displays. Would there be any counter suits from Samsung? Will Apple take a shot direclty at Google / Android ever? This story is far from over.
