It was a surprise or rather a shock to see that Facebook’s first official native app for any tablet went to Blackberry Playbook. Thats certainly a joke! The iPad has sold over 20 million units and is on sale since a year, but no signs of an official Facebook app, so how does Blackberry Playbook get one immediately after launch? That too on a completely new platform called QNX?
Well the answers came at Blackbery world conference where Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer was one of the speakers, talking about Microsoft’s investment in the RIM platform. Apparently BING would be the default search engine on all Blackberries (with a OS level integration) and there is some enterprise love between the two companies as well. So why the change of heart towards tablet? That too RIM to be specific?
Well as it turns out Microsoft is a investor in Facebook and they sure can influence a quick tablet app from their invested company. Its a gift from Ballmer to Lazaridis. Happy birthday Playbook.
