Apple Lodges Complaint For iPods.com

Apple wants iPods.comApple first introduced iPod in October 2001 and then soon owned iPod.com domain. It owns the iPod trademark. In April 2002 someone registered a domain named iPods.com. They had used the trademark in their domain name but Apple didn’t go after the owners of the domain.

After 9 years, Apple realizing the importance of the domain they lodged a complaint that the domain name should be transferred over to them. Apple owns the iPod trademark and thinks that they are the rightful owner of the domain name. So they decided to own the domain name.  since it owns the trademark it looks like the dispute will be resolved rapidly.

Apple has also acquired iPad trademark from Fujitsu in March 2010. But considering the popularity of iPad it’s strange to know that Apple does not own iPad.com or any other iPad-related domain name. Looking at the fact that Apple is now trying to own iPods.com domain and it also have enough money in the bank they might buy the domain for iPad too. Quite a shift from the time when they paid a 7 digit sum to buy iPhone.com !
