As per the latest report from 9to5Mac, Apple has seeded certain builds of iOS 5.0.1 prior to official release to selected users for the testing purpose. Supposedly, most of these users belongs to the iPhone 4S category where a huge drop in the battery life has been noticed. However, Apple denies claim that the problem is with the phone. Instead, it is with a bug in iOS 5.0 causing these issues.
The source has also posted a screenshot where Apple clearly notifies customers that any distribution of this software is not allowed and you don’t have the permission to discuss anywhere about it. On a separate note, it says that Apple Store should not replace the phone if no issue is found with the hardware of the device. The customer should be told that there is some issue with the software which would be released by Apple in few weeks.
iOS 5.0.1 is mainly targeted to fix the issue with iPhones running on iOS 5.0. And some add on features such as multitasking gestures on iPad 1, some improvements of Siri for Australian users and other fixes. Currently, iOS 5.0.1 is in beta testing and the battery drain is assumed to be primarily due to Time Zone which uses notifications at intervals. Have you received an email from Apple too?
