Apple has submitted new more detailed renderings for their proposed 13,000 employee mega campus in Cupertino, California.
Steve Jobs, the late Apple co-founder had first unveiled the design at a town hall meeting in Cupertino and interestingly said that the new campus design looks more like a landed spaceship on earth. He also believed that the new campus might just be the best in the world.
Since then there have been some modifications made in the plan which includes additional parking plans, a new jogging track and expansion of the fitness center from 25,000 to 45,000 square feet. As a result the fitness centre’s height has also come down to 18 feet from the earlier proposed 30 feet.
There has been criticism from some of the architects in the US, with the Los Angeles Times Architecture labeling the design as a “retrograde cocoon” and others calling it a “gigantic donut”.
Though more importantly the mayor of Cupertino, Gilbert Wong and other neighboring cities have come out in support of the proposed project and have said that they will willingly clear it.
At the same time Apple also seems to be in a hurry to get the project started as they already have increased their financial expenditure for 2012 by 72%. It’s believed that Apple is gunning to get the campus up and running by 2015.
Personally the design looks amazing and the detailed bright rendering makes them look more elegant and closer to nature.
