iOS 5.0.1 Security Bug Lets You Bypass Passcode To Access Address Book & Make Calls

Folks at iPhoneislam have found a security flaw in iOS 5.0.1 which lets you access address book and make calls after bypassing the passcode in iPhone. To strengthen their claim, they have demonstrated the same in a video where the method worked smoothly on an iPhone 4. The process is really simple and handy and everyone can follow it to experience themselves.

First call from any number and end the call. As usual, the iPhone would show a miss call as a notification on the lock screen. Now, take the micro sim card out of the tray and put your phone in a condition where it shows ‘searching..’ in the signal bar. Now, slide to dial the no. using the missed call notification until it shows ‘call failed’. Once you tap on ‘done’, you would be into the phone.app of iPhone.

The person in the video has tried several times, but he was successful at the end. He bypassed the passcode and managed to enter into the phone application where favorites, recents, contacts, keypad and voicemails were visible. It is assumed to be an iOS 5.0.1 bug which Apple would fix it in upcoming software update, iOS 5.1. The iPhone in the video is not JailBroken. So it applies to all iDevices.

Anyone aware of the bug can perform it without issues. However, it works great at places where the signal strength is low. Let’s know what do you think about it in the comment section.
