New Apple Tv Unveiled At The Old Price of $99, Gets UI Upgrade, 1080p Video

At the March 7 event alongside the blockbuster ‘The New iPad” Apple also unveiled the new Apple Tv. Apple has says that Apple Tv is produced by them just as a hobby. But they have been pretty serious and ambitious with their hobby this time around. Lets find out whats new.

The major upgrade to the set-up box has been its capability to stream 1080p video content. Even iCloud streams full HD 1080p movies – a much-needed upgrade from the previous 720p. Previously we could just access Music and Tv shows from iCloud. But the new upgrades lets you access even Movies in iCloud anytime anywhere.

The Apple Tv also come preloaded with a slick new User Interface. Its been highly inspired by the iOS UI with streamlined big icons. The Movies icons look really stunning with banner-esque icons taking full advantage of the Full HD output.

 The Apple Tv has an A5 processor under its hoods and comes with a plethora of connectivity options :

  • Optical Out for full 5.1 surround sound
  • Built-in IR receiver

Apple Tv also comes with Apple’ proprietary AirPlay feature. It lest you stream content wirelessly from your iPhone/iPad/iPod or even Macs on the big screen. You can access your entire music library, Videos and even browse through your Photos on the big screen. With iPhone/iPad mirroring you can have your iDevice display on your HDTV giving you way more real estate and also enjoy graphic intensive games. With the Summer Launch of Mountain Lion even Macs will support full Mirroring. Thus with huge penetration of iDevices Apple Tv does add a lot of functionality and makes viewing content on a big screen a child’s play.

Also the Chronic-Dev was able to Jailbreak the previous Apple Tv (4.4.4) running iOS 5.0.1 enabling us to have more functionality to you Apple TV like XMBC support and play Hulu videos. It also lets you have weather and stocks etc apps on your TV.
