Windows Phones Beats iPhone to Take Second Position in China

Yes this sounds unbelievable but Windows Phone has beaten iPhone in China to take the second spot after Android. Though Windows phone has not been performing well in other markets, China seems to be lapping up the Microsoft offering quite well.

Microsoft entered China on March 21, 2012 and within 2 months it has captured 7% market share surpassing 6% of iOS. The only other dominant OS standing in front is Android. Android has nearly 69% market share and Microsoft would have to really capture another 7% market share to be considered as an Android alternative.

China is currently the biggest smart phone market in the world. It overtook US with more smartphones and maximum number of Android device activations.

With Microsoft penetrating the mobile phone market, it now needs to concentrate on the Windows MarketPlace to retain its users. Microsoft Marketplace has just 90000 apps at the moment which is nowhere near to the offering by Apple and Android.
