Karbonn Ties Up With MTS; Launches New CDMA Phones In India

Desi phone maker Karbonn Mobiles who has recently managed to turn global heads thanks to its affordable and feature packed Android powered offerings are at it again. This time, the company has announced a strategic tie up with mobile operator MTS, a brand owned by Sistema Shyam Teleservices Limited. The tie up will involve the two companies helping each other. Karbonn will manufacture co branded handsets that would sell with the MTS brand while in exchange, the mobile operator would offer network backup.

The result of this tie up are three new handsets which we are going to talk about now. The new models that have been announced include the MTS Turbo B121, MTS Buzz X121 and MTS Rockstar V121. All of these handsets are CDMA 1x devices and come loaded with a host of youngster friendly features that include Facebook integration, FM Radio and a decent web browser. It also packs in a host of branded services that are called MTS Movie Planet and My MTS Planet.

The B121 is a low end CDMA phone and features a 4.5 cm, 128*160 pixel TFT screen. There is no camera on this device. The social networking bit is taken care of with a dedicated key for Facebook. Powering the device is 1800 mAH battery that should last you an entire day with heavy usage. The phone also features bluetooth connectivity and a torchlight that you can use in the.. ahem dark.

Next up is the MTS Buzz X121 which happens to be a QWERTY keyboard toting budget CDMA handset. This one gets a 5.1 cm display with a resolution of 220*176 pixels and also boasts of a 1.3 megapixel camera and the capability to record videos. While this one might skip the dedicated Facebook button, the QWERTY keyboard should more than make up for that omission. And yes, it does get Bluetooth and expandable memory support. Powering the device is a largish 1500 mAH battery.

The Rockstar V121 is what we are now left with and this one gets a 6.1 cm, 240*320 pixel TFT display, a 1.3 megapixel camera with the ability to record videos. Connectivity options are limited to Bluetooth and USB. This phone also gets 4 GB of exxpandable menory and comes loaded with one month free subscription of MTS Movie Planet.
