New OSX Trojan Shows Proprietary Ads On All Websites

It is a well known fact till date that OSX machines are more secure than Windows machines, which in some ways might be true. The russian agency Doctor Web reported of a new OSX Trojan code named Trojan.Yontoo.1, spotted by TheNextWeb, is affecting OSX systems using almost all browsers including Safari, Chrome and Firefox. The trojan seems to be an intelligent plugin that displays ads on an website the user visits, the ads will basically drive more clicks to the intended person who created the trojan and thus earn him cash in an illegal way.

OSX trojan

Luckily the trojan isn’t capable enough to spread onto OSX systems by itself but it tricks users on OSX into installing it by acting as an essential plugging to play a video or a high definition video or by acting as a download accelerator etc. When users install the plugin their system will be attacked by the trojan and it resides on the users system.

It is high time some reputed protection softwares life anti-virus apps are given out for OSX users as well, in general the platform is more secure that Windows but that does not mean OSX is totally immune to virus and trojan attacks. When the users base of a operating system is less there is no point for attackers to create virus or trojan that cannot spread. With OSX becoming popular slowly we witness more number of attacks happening as well.

In a demonstration provided by Doctor Web, the showcase how indigenously the plugin displays ads even on Apple website that looks as if Apple were displaying the ads, if the plugin is capable of tricking users on Apple website imagine what it can do on normal and rouge websites. We advice all our readers to update their virus database and if possible install new anti-virus protection softwares on their Macs.
