United States Patent and Trademark office finally awarded Apple with design patents related to iPhone 4 and iPod touch 2007 model. It’s been almost a year since Apple iPhone 4 has been launched formally and now the company’s design related patent got approved. The iPhone 4 Design Patent filing reads: The ornamental design for an electronic device with graphical user interface, as shown and described. As we all know that Apple’s Ex-Employee who lead the team for Antennae design in iPhone 4 – Mark Papermaster, hasn’t been credited for the nitriding stainless steel band. Guess who got credited for that – Steve Jobs. Ouch!

Last month, we reviewed MacBook Air – October 2010 model but didn’t get the chance to open it. However, there was buzz going around about the MacBook Air models having SSDs from different makers. The new Late 2010 MacBook Air has custom-built Mini PCI Express form factor based SSD drive that is looked upon to give blazing fast performance. Initially, the MacBook Air Late 2010 models came out with SSDs manufactured by Toshiba that offered 210 MBps read and 185MBps write speeds. The iFixit teardown confirmed the existence of these Toshiba Blade X-gale SSD (TS128C) modules being used in the MacBook Air. However, now we’re hearing several recently purchased MacBook Air models are giving faster data throughput performance. Not with a help of any drivers but its due to different hardware altogether.

Apple working on 3D iPhone?

by c0rex on March 31, 2011 · 0 comments

LG and HTC have jumped in to the madness of 3D imagery recording smartphones as well as tablets. Pretty much every handset maker *might* planned a 3D smartphone after that. So why would Apple stay behind? Apple is said to be working on an iPhone prototype that would be capable of capturing 3D images. Apple Insider has discovered Apple’s recent  patent application titled: Systems and Methods for an Imaging System Using Multiple Image Sensors. Well, that does sound like iPhone 3D.

The Patent filing about using an additional image sensor on iPhone system to capture, process and render 3D images. So dual-camera on same side of smartphone isn’t something new. We’ve already seen that with LG Optimus 3D and HTC EVO 3D. The approach is looked upon as a “paradigm shift from the known software-based approaches”. According to this approach, the software should be able to ‘guess’ how two images in to a single 3D photograph. Hardware based approach would also be employed for more accurate processing and hence would require more than one image sensor that could determine the luma, chroma and depth of two different images to combine them.

Photoshop World 2011 convention is one place where the Photoshop Experts across the globe meet and discuss about the latest in the technology from Adobe. Yes, Photoshop indeed is that big. At the event, Adobe showed off the Photoshop Express App for iPad that almost neared completion. The demo shows some sweet layers animation and other cool tools. From the demo it’s fairly visible that the App is almost ready to hit the iOS App Store. Check the demo below:

From the demo it appears that loads of cool tricks would be added in Photoshop Express App. Only after it arrives we’ll get to know if Apple iPad 2 is actually able to make the best of it from its revised hardware.

Here’s a piece of good news for all iPhone, iPod touch and iPad owners who’ve been holding on. The iPhone Dev Team member Musclenerd said on Twitter that the untethered jailbreak for iOS 4.3.x is being beta tested. The exploit for untethered jailbreak has been discovered by iOS platform Security Researcher/Developer called Stefan Esser – known as @i0n1c on Twitter. According to Musclenerd, the i0n1c’s untethered jailbreak exploit is pretty solid. (Hint. Hint!)

At this moment, you can jailbreak your iOS 4.3.1 based iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPod touch 3G, iPod touch 4G and iPad by trying your luck with the PwnageTool 4.2 for Mac with a complicated way or sn0wbreeze 2.4 beta 1 for Windows. Remember that there’s NO unlock for all recent basebands found in iOS 4.3.1 and can only support these basebands – 01.59.00 / 04.26.08 / 05.11.07 / 05.12.01 / 05.13.04 / 06.15.00. Choose your tools wisely.

Apple CEO Steve Jobs unveiled the heavily awaited  iPad 2 with loads new features. Jobs did criticize the rival tablet makers and called them copycats. The Year 2010 was known as the year of iPad – How? Well, iPad has been the top searched term at the Google Search engine as per the Google Zeitgiest. Personally, I love Apple products on grounds of design and performance. However, this time iPad 2 appears to me as a rushed up job just to shut the speculations or to get a knee-jerk reaction from those who dare to launch an Android tablet.

Without bantering much around the bush, I mean issue, I will come straight to the point. There’s no clarity on the capacity of Image Sensors used in iPad 2. That simple information wasn’t divulged. Neither at the launch nor in the specifications sheet. Now that makes me wonder if Apple was ashamed to reveal whether iPad 2 carries 3 megapixel or 5 megapixel camera at the back. The rival Android 3.0 Honeycomb based tablets seems to have 5 megapixel or 8 megapixel cameras with 1080p HD video recording. Even RIM BlackBerry PlayBook which has been heavily criticized to be mere specifications wonder flaunts 5 megapixel camera with 1080p HD video recording capacity.

Apple has just released the iOS 4.3 Gold Master build to the iOS platform testers and participating developers. The iOS 4.3 is due for arrival on March 11 and just in case you woke up from sleep, do check the list of major enhancements the update promises. New iOS 4.3 Gold Master build 8F190 might not have any new features but only few changes and bug fixes. However, if you come across any significant change that hasn’t be reported, do let us know.

Apple iOS 4.3 GM build would be available only to the registered iOS platform developer program folks. Also try and avoid the fake iOS 4.3 builds that might be circulated in matter of hours – pranksters are quite predictable. Gold Master build means almost final one unless any critical issues are spotted.

Now all the iOS Jailbreak developing teams would get busy looking for exploits in this final build. As of now there’s no Estimated Time of Arrival about any iOS 4.3 jailbreak and we certainly await a foolproof solution. So let’s be bit patient and let the jailbreak developers do their work. Let’s gear up for March 11. But before that download the iTunes 10.2 which is necessary to fetch iOS 4.3 update.

Apple iPad 2 launch event is hardly 12 hours away and in comes the detail about the iPad 2. During this window period, we can expect to see all kinds of leaks, gimmicks and mock ups of the iPad 2. But sometimes biggies too slip. Amazon Germany website accidentally published Apple iPad 2 listing but quickly rolled it back. However, a German reader managed to take a screenshot of the listing and it was enough to get some basic details about the iPad 2 tablet.
