Scott Buscemi of 9to5mac published an interesting piece of news yesterday. It seems Apple considered four different names for the iPhone apart from well, the obviously chosen “iPhone ”. And surprisingly most of the other choices seem funny now, which are “Telepod”, “iPad”, “Mobi” and “Tripod”. At an event at the University of Arizona’s Department of Marketing (Eller School of Management), former Apple advertising lead Ken Segall shared this additional details into the naming behind Apple’s massively popular smartphone.

There are times when you have to send photos or videos from an iOS application. And the usual way is to open up the picker from the action button on that application and then manually select the photo. In fact in may cases, you aren’t able to select multiple photos. Due to which you have to access the camera roll or photo library one by one every time you have to select the photo to send from an application.

Not anymore, because Cocoanuts, who are known to bring one of the handy tweak to send files from an iPhone to other devices via bluetooth have come up with a tweak called ‘QuickPhoto’. This tweak would add an additional keyboard layout, similar to Emoji keyboard where you could switch using a globe on the bottom left for purpose of sending smilies right from the same application. But this keyboard layout would let you select photos or videos from Camera Roll, Photos Album or Photo stream and share from any application. [click to continue…]

TypeStatus, a free app on Cydia is a simple tweak that notifies you in the iOS status bar with a simple icon of message bubble with dots when someone is typing an iMessage to you. No matter what you are doing on the phone the alert on the status bar still appears, this incredible tweak is simple yet very useful. The only downside of the app is that it doesn’t tell you who is sending you an iMessage but hey, it does let you know that an iMessage is about to be delivered!

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) agreed to investigate the recent ban on Cell Phone Unlocking in the US which states that it is illegal to unlock any cell phone in the US that has been purchased after January 26th 2013. The investigation’s main purpose is to analyse  if the ban is harmful to economic competitiveness of the system. FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski has said that the “ban raises competition concerns; it raises innovation concerns”.

As expected, Planetbeing on Twitter has said that Evad3rs would be updating the JailBreaking tool evasi0n to support iOS 6.1.2 untethered JailBreak. Similar to previous JailBreak, all you would need is to download evasi0n from the official website, update your iDevice manually from iTunes, connect from PC/Mac and run the JailBreaking tool to get Cydia. If you are JailBroken on iOS 6.1.1 right now, you would not be able to update via OTA on iOS 6.1.2 since it doesn’t allow you to do so.

Planetbeing has also informed that he would be updating the JailBreaking tool later today which means you could expect evasi0n 1.4 very soon. A while ago, we told you that the hacker had successfully tested iOS 6.1.2 and could confirm that the JailBreak had been working without any issues. We have seen earlier that Apple sometimes let the JailBreak go and work on some other important fixes which was exchange bug in this case.  [click to continue…]

Apple has lately seeded yet another version of its mobile operating system to fix exchange bugs for iOS devices. iOS 6.1.2 has been into beta in the form of iOS 6.1.1 and ultimately Apple had to release it with the successive nomenclature because they had seeded iOS 6.1.1 specifically for iPhone 4S. Just few minutes after release of iOS 6.1.2, Apple has stopped signing iOS 6.1.1.

This means that you would not be able to revert if you have not saved SHSH Blobs either using TinyUmbrella or iFaith. Also, you can checkout in Cydia where the saved SHSH Blobs could be seen in green text written at the top inside the application. Until now, we have no information whether iOS 6.1.2 has closed the loophole for JailBreak, thereby making the JailBreaking tool called Evasi0n non-functional.  [click to continue…]

Today, we have come across a site called SIGNUNLOCKPETITION which needs people to sign a petition for illegal unlocking of all cell phones and in turn they would unlock one of your iPhone. This petition would be sent to white house, so that the law could be overturned and people would be able to unlock their cell phones without any restrictions. However, after signing the partition, you could claim unlock for only one device which would take around a day to process your request.

The iPhone could be either iPhone 2G, iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S or iPhone 5. If you try to unlock more than one iPhone and the system detects any fraud, all of your devices would be locked again. Nevertheless, the unlock would be processed only after you have signed the petition. Currently, 22,334 people are left for the target to be achieved. According to them, the unlocking for the iPhone which they would do is completely legal because they are unlocking only iPhones which have been manufactured before Jan 26.

Yesterday, Apple seeded iOS 6.1.1 specifically for iPhone 4S to overcome with carrier related issues. This update didn’t seem to kill any exploits which iOS hackers have been using to JailBreak iPhone, iPod touch or iPad on iOS 6.1. Due to which they have updated the JailBreak tool called evasi0n to version 1.3 that allows you to remain JailBroken even if you have updated your iPhone 4S on iOS 6.1.1.

On the other hand, iOS 6.1.1 remains to be seen in beta and it’s expected that Apple would release it in the form of iOS 6.1.2 or something. Of course, at the end of day, they have to close  the loophole in the form of security threats to iOS devices. Previous version of evasi0n disabled OTA update on any iOS device to keep bugging you if you are JailBroken.

We all know that Apple has lately seeded the beta of its upcoming firmware version, iOS 6.1.1. Even though it doesn’t kill the JailBreak yet, but it’s expected that it could in the final version. Now, according to a recent report from 9to5Mac, carriers have completed the testing of the upcoming firmware and Apple would reportedly release iOS 6.1.1 soon.

Many people have been facing issues with iOS 6.1 which includes battery drain and carrier issues. In fact AOL has disabled some exchange services to avoid issues for their customers. All these things are surely an indications towards the fact that Apple has some concrete reasons to push the software as soon as possible. And one of the bigger one is to stop people messing up with iOS by closing the loophole which led to the JailBreak. [click to continue…]
