While its been ages since we started hoping for the iPhone 3GS in India and hopped on every small hint of a launch here. But its 2010 and no signs of the iPhone 3GS in India yet, even though the world is cheering the iPad and speculating the 4th Gen iPhone. One bitten twice shy [...]

Why the iPad wont work in India

by Ankur on January 28, 2010

in All, Apple iPad, Reviews

Yes I know that Apple proudly announced that the iPad is unlocked and the price is $499 (+$130 for 3G version), that means its more affordable than an iPhone 3G in India. So looking to grab the coolest (and the most bashed) gadget in town? Well wait a minute. If you are in India and [...]

Why should Apple launch the iPhone 3GS in India?

by Vikas on December 6, 2009

in All, News

At this point after endless delays and multiple rants by many of us on the delay in launch / absence of the 3GS in India, I am wondering if it makes sense for Apple to spend time trying to sell a super smartphone in a nascent market like India. Yes we are the worlds fastest growing mobile [...]

Foxconn has reportedly received increased orders for manufacturing the iPhone 3Gs in Q4 to meet the growing demand. The increase in order is said to be roughly 17% – 20%. Even OmniVision (which manufacturers sensors for the iPhone) has reportedly informed its customers that there would be supply constraints in order to meet Apple’s increased [...]

We just got a little tip from a reader leaving us a comment that Airtel India is actually unlocking the iPhone 3G after the 12month contract ends (just as we heard before). We also have a little screenshot of the unlock screen here. So while we wait for number portability and the iPhone 3GS to [...]

The iPhone 3Gs has given Apple a real boost. After selling 1 million 3Gs in just 3 days and a total of 5.2million iPhones in Q3 (majority of which were the old iPhone 3G); it seems that Apple is facing serious stock issues. Rogers in Canada is out of stock and is full filling the [...]

As the days are passing and the date for the iPhone launch is nearing, I am getting worried. Neither Airtel or Vodafone has any advertisement going live. No update on their outlets or call centers either. No mysterious tips received by us or any info from employees pouring in like last time. This is certainly [...]

Every time a new iPhone launches in the US, my messenger, cell phone, twitter all start to buzz with inquiries by local Apple fans here in India. All of them have the same query – Can you ask your brother (he is based in NJ, US) to send an iPhone for me? I heard it [...]

in News, Rumors

FoneArena has a tip on the iPhone 3GS launch price for India. According to them the 16Gb version of the new iPhone would cost Rs 32000 and the 32GB one would retail for Rs 39000. We cant be sure if this is real, but personally the estimate looks very much a wild speculation to me. [...]

So something that we missed during our iPhone in India coverage all along was the official unlocking offered by Airtel. While we are yet to confirm this with Airtel, the Apple site lists Airtel India as one of those carriers which supports authorized unlocking (ofcource with an additional fee).
Its very surprising that in so many [...]

Update: iPhone 3G in India

by Ankur on April 29, 2009

in News

Apple iPhone was launched with a lot of buzz in India. Two popular carriers launched the phone simultaneously at sky high rates. But it seems that the lack of basic features like SMS FW, Bluetooth etc has gone against the iPhone 3G in India.
People here buy iPods and pay Rs 500 to small technicians just [...]

Vodafone and Airtel already have a headstart with the Apple iPhone 3G launch in India last month. Now reports suggest that the state-owned BSNL (Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd) is also getting the same soon!
BSNL and Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd (MTNL) are the first two government operators to get 3G licence. BSNL along with MTNL was [...]

Several banks like ICICI, AXIS and Barclays have started to offer loans for buying the iPhone 3G in India. In India the iPhone is being sold at which one can easily buy a Laptop Computer. Vodafone website is displaying its India rate plans for the iPhone. And it really seems to be expensive. To start with there is NO unlimited Internet option. Sadly the iPhone’s great web browsing would come at a premium.
The plans are divided in two parts 1) For new connections 2) For existing connections
New connections shall cost [...]

iPhone 3G is officially coming to India on 22nd August. And Nokia seems to be worries about it! In a desperate attempt to steal some thunder from the iPhone, it has announced its N96.

The iPhone pricing in India was initially though to be subsidized below 20k. However the latest news suggest that the iPhone will be launched for something in the range of Rs 31000 (8GB) to 37000 (16GB). Though the demand and hype is good; such heavy pricing would discourage many potential buyers.
And if our source is [...]

Almost certain, our source reveals to us that Airtel is to launch the iPhone 3G in India @ Rs 31000 (for the 8Gb Clack version) and the 16GB would cost Rs 37000. This is certainly way above the market expectations and earlier estimates of a under 20k launch.
This seems true considering that unlocked iPhone 3G [...]

Though Vodafone is yet to announce any official date for their iPhone launch in India, Airtel has set 22nd August as the D day! Apple iPhone 3G would finally land in India. But still no official word on pricing yet!
In my opinion it wasn’t the smartest of moves to skip the iPhone 1st Gen in [...]

Sadly initially only the 8Gb version of the iPhone would make it the the indian shores. Based on the response and demand to the same, the 16GB would be considered.
Do the White 16gig iPhone… See you @ 2009
Update: Ok this was a false alarm …. Both the iPhones were launched in India!!
