According to the list compiled by Digitimes, Apple iPhone 3GS and the iPhone 3G make it within the top 5 best selling smartphones in US (in Q2-2009).

iPhone 3G is a bestseller in Japan?

The survey of 2300 retail stores by Nikkei.net revealed that iPhone 3G 8GB and 16GB are the #1 and #2 smartphones in Japan respectively.

Not very convincing to me, but it seems that iPhone 3G 8GB is the most popular (as per sales) smartphone in Japan. Earlier we had reports of extremely poor sales of iPhone [...]

No wonder their servers were strained! Apple has seen 6 million downloads for the iPhone 3.0 firmware since its release on 17th June and has sold 1million iPhone 3GS’ in just 2 days. This includes many online pre – orders that Apple was accepting for the 3GS.

Apple captures 1.5% of mobile sales

Apple has managed to raise its market share with the Apple iPhone to 1.5%, that’s up 0.4% from Q1 (2008 end) which has them at 1.1%. With just 1 model out in the market (the iPhone 3G), this is a superb performance from Apple.

Last we heard from Apple during the OS 3.0 unveiling about 17million iPhone being sold worldwide (1st gen and 3G combined), and here comes the confirmation that Apple has now crossed the 20million mark with 21million iPhones sold. AT&T has also reported 1.6million more activations in Q2.

Wedbush Morgan analyst Craig Berger predicts that Apple is indeed preparing the iPhone Nano for a Q2 2009 release. With recession leaving its impact on the Tech industry a cheaper iPhone would be preferred alongwith a cheaper Macbook and might well be an instant Hit (something Apple is now used to).

Last year Q4 Apple sold 1.1m iPhones, This year q$ ending 30th Sept its 6.9 million. This is what we call the iPhone 3G $199 effect!
iPhone Atlast gets the figures in place:

June 2007: 0.3 million (it was only on sale for two days in this quarter)
Sept. 2007: 1.1 million
Dec. 2007: 2.3 million
