Free memory is an appstore app which allows you to free the runtime memory on the iPhone. Now you all must be wondering whats runtime memory. Runtime memory is the memory required to run the iPhone processes. Most of them are system processes. The other free memory is used for running apps. However, due to large requirement of system processes, there are only few mb’s left for running apps. Thats why you see app crashing, hanging, safari suddenly quitting etc. This can be due to the low availability of runtime memory to run those particular apps.
The system processes require a lot of memory so there’s only 20-25 mb runtime memory left for the apps out of 128 mb. Therefore, sometimes there isn’t enough memory to run apps which lead to app crashing. Free memory comes to the picture here. The app allows you to free your runtime memory which allows you to run your apps and processes without any problems like hang and crashing.
HOW TO USE :
As you open the app, you will see a button ‘Free Memory’. Above that, you will see the available free memory which is already calculated as you open the app. But as soon as you tap on the button the app will free some memory by killing some processes or apps (don’t worry this wont harm your iPhone) and the runtime memory would be freed.
So there’s no need to reboot your iPhone again and again if your app crashes or hangs, just open the app and click free memory and your problem would be solved within seconds. One more feature in the new version is to see the processes which are currently running on the iPhone. It also shows the battery level of the phone in percentage.
However, it doesn’t show which app or process has it killed to free the memory. There is also an information page if you click on the bottom-right encircled ‘i’.
Also, one thing I noticed in this app is that after freeing the memory, the phone works much faster, and the game speed improves drastically. However, i cant comment anything about the apps. But i think this app is pretty nifty and is certainly worth your money. It’s a must for all those who like to load their iPhone’s with tonnes of apps and don’t like to delete them. So I would say just go for it!!
IMPORTANT NOTE to users with OS 2.2: If you have less than 4 MB available, freeing memory may take about 1-2 minutes, or it may cause a reset.
