The rumors about an iPod Touch like Zune have finally come to true with the announcement of Microsoft Zune HD today. Like iPod Touch, it will sport a capacitive multi-touch – 3.3 inch – with a 480×272 OLED resolution. Though the screen isn’t much of competition for iPod Touch’s high resolution 320×480 screen, OLED is a nice addition, and we guess that Apple might be considering to add the same in it’s upcoming iPhone and iPod Touch as well. Rest of the specifications included a HD Radio Receiver, HD video output capabilities, Internet Browser and an in-built Wi-Fi.Though it looks cool, can it truly be a competition for iPod Touch? I guess not really… iPod Touch series is a huge success for Apple with its OS, consistent software updates, and the thing that makes it much more special is the AppStore, can Microsoft offer anything to beat the 40,000 apps (though most of these are below par)? As Apple has already announced targeting iPod Touch as it’s gaming device, Zune HD won’t be much of a competition unless it involves some serious gaming capabilities, like that of a tiny XBOX. 😉
