Appstore has been the biggest USP for the iPhone off late. Whenever a good enough device comes close to claiming the title crown from the Apple iPhone, the App store takes things out of reach. Over the past few months, Plam Pre, HTC Hero (Android powered) and a few others have tried their best to shake the iPhone off the peak, but the 3GS still remains a hot cake, such that its global rollout is delayed due to stock shortages.
Nimish recently wrote about the competition in the portable gaming industry moving from PSP vs DS to iPod touch versus the Zune HD. And Microsoft sure realises the gaming opportunity that Apple has seen with the iTouch.
Foundation 42, an iPhone and Zune game developer proudly announced on twitter recently that it took just 12 hours for them to port games (Monotouch & XNA) for the App store to the Zune HD.
“From #iPhone game to #ZuneHD game in 12 hours using #MonoTouch and #XNA – http://bit.ly/2O3y6Z – enjoy!”
While Fountain42 hasn’t cant make this commercial game public for the Zune users yet. This to me appears as an opportunity for Microsoft to steal iPhone’s thunder by assisting (making it easy for) Game / App developers to port their applications to the Zune / Windows Mobile.
