Apple left millions of iPhone is despair with no MMS and tethering to begin with and then threw a smiley with MMS and Tethering announcement. After months of wait, the MMS service for the iPhone 3G and 3GS is all set to go live on AT&T (the official iPhone carrier is US).
While we were speculating that the iPhone firmware 3.1.1 will hit iTunes on 25th Sept to enable the MMS service, it turns out to be a carrier update file that will bring the multimedia magic to the iPhone. AT&T itself is on its toes while industry analysts have their eyes wide open for what does this additional MMS traffic due to AT&T’s network which hasĀ been under a massive upgrade recently.
However, the majority surge would be with anxious iPhone users giving the service a try and the MMS rollout are surely, not as significant and resource hungry as the ‘tethering’ that will go live before year end! AT&T is keen on retaining the iPhone exclusivity and their performance are crucial for this to happen.
