QWERTY keyboards have become an essential feature of the smartphones, be it a solid QWERTY or a virtual one. The introduction of QWERTY has also reduced the use of the T9 predictive typing system. The developers of the T9 predictive system have developed Swype for the new smartphones to make typing easy.
Swype Text Input eliminates the need for a ‘press’ for typing on a virtual QWERTY keyboard. The user just needs to swype his fingers through a virtual QWERTY keyboard and the software takes care of the rest. Samsung Omnia II is the first phone which is going to have the Swype. Swype would also be available for the Android phones by the beginning of 2010.
Also, the leaked video featured here shows the ‘Swypeing’ on Samsung Omnia II versus the Typing on iPhone. The 25 character race definitely gives Swype an edge. But with the video released from the developers of Swype, the chances of biassing cannot be completely eliminated. Yet, when it comes from the developers of the T9 predictive system, it has to be interesting atleast.
