It’s been long months and years of rumors claiming a netbook or tablet from Cupertino. While I had dismissed the tablet rumors before as a hype and decided long ago that I would not write about it until something official turns up, this is an intriguing bit of news here. Apple has registered trademark for the term ‘TabletMac’. Their application was filed in November 2008, but the actual transfer of the trademark has happened only now.
Though this doesn’t necessarily point to a Tablet launch or confirm the name of a tablet product from Apple, (they might just be securing names similar to its Mac lineup), but then it is certainly an official bit with ‘tablet + Apple’ seen together on a legal filing :). The name ‘TabletMac’ previously was used by Axiotron for the Mac’s that they mod to convert them into tablets. However, they now refer to their offerings as ‘Modbook’ and Apple has secured the name ‘ TabletMac’.
Personally I hate the name Tablet Mac, and I am more than sure that this is just to secure a term related to its product line. For the actual tablet from Apple, guess we have to wait.
