The latest buzz about the 2010 iPhone is that Apple is working to release the iPhone 4G (4th generation) in May. Citing a French magazine, 9to5mac reports that Apple is preparing the iPhone 4G for a May release to counter an upgraded Android OS from Google. Google has just recently stepped up the race with a super-smartphone label to its Nexus One.
Apple would surely be keeping a close watch on the rising competition for the iPhone. While the 3GS is still a blockbuster with over 10 million units rumored to have flown off the shelf last quarter, the need for the next gen 4G cannot be denied. Android is making a steady progress with the Nexus One and Droid creating some buzz and at the same time the upgraded Palm Pre Plus is hitting Verizon shortly.
The competition might have taken time, but they are now catching up with new age smartphones. Nokia had promised us DIFFERENT devices in 2010, Samsung is gearing up with the BADA OS and new players like Lenovo, Dell and Acer are jumping on to the smartphone race. Microsoft is also expected to release/announce the Windows Mobile 7 next month. This would make the iPhone 4G (slated for a June/July release) placed far from the spotlight. An early iPhone release or announcement can change the momentum though! We are expecting Apple to add a 5MP camera with Flash, Multitasking and new carriers for the iPhone this year.
