The iPhone 3GS, iPod touch 3G and the 1G iPad – all of them lack a front camera. So there is no point of the iPhone OS supporting video calling / chat. However, developers have unearthed references to video chat interface in the upcoming iPhone OS 3.2. The new OS that would go live with the iPad launch is already in the hands of developers for app development.
Icons in the OS 3.2 SDK – software development kit, include “Accept Video” and “Decline or End Video”. Apart from the icons, also discovered is the code, to shuffle the video chat between full screen and small screen area. This alone is good enough to point out what tht next gen iPhone 4G is being tested with.
In 2007, Apple revolutionized mobile web with the iPhone, will they now take video calling mainstream?
